There is such magic in the medium of film. Have you ever noticed how many apps + editing programs there are out there that are trying to mimic the appearance of it? The silkiness, the natural grain, the colors…I don’t care how much time you spend in photoshop, a digital image will never be able to exactly replicate the feeling of 35mm. With digital photography you can take 100s of shots in a few minutes, literally capturing every moment, but with film you only have so many exposures per roll...36 to be exact. With limited shots, it forces you to be very intentional with each and every click of the shutter. Sometimes I will sit back and watch a family for a few minutes with my camera up to my eye without taking a single photo, just waiting for the exact moment that I catch a sweet glance. And there is something to be said about the delayed gratification of not knowing exactly what the images look like in real time - I truly get butterflies in my stomach when I am about receive a roll of film back after processing because I get so excited to see how everything turned out. Each and every image truly feels so dreamy.

I am drawn to capturing families as they really are. The details and in-between moments are so important for me to document because that's where the story of your family can really be felt...they are truly my favorite images to capture. My approach is very laid back and organic...during our session I will help guide you with minimal + subtle direction to help get your family into a groove and make sure that we capture beautiful stills, while at the same time stepping back and letting you do your thing while I do mine.

After securing your booking (by sending in your deposit + signed client agreement) you will be sent a brief questionnaire which will help me to get a better feel for your family + your hopes for the session. Ahead of the shoot we'll hop on a quick call to go through details of the session, FAQs, and any questions you have for me...having everyone on the same page + comfortable ahead of time helps the day flow naturally! The day of will be low-stress and fun...I'm there to help guide you into authentic moments and capture the magic of your family.

My greatest advice when choosing a location is pick a spot that means something to you and your family. For this reason, I really do feel like your home is such a special place for your session to take place. However I know not everyone is in love with the idea of having an in-home session, and that’s okay too! Whether it’s your home, a go-to neighborhood park, or your favorite beach, what is most important is to choose a location where your family spends a lot of time together, you will all be more comfortable on camera when we’re shooting in a space that is important and authentic to you and the images will truly capture a day in the life doing something you all love.

When shooting film, there are hard costs associated with your session (film + processing/scanning) in addition to the time I put in to get prepped for the shoot, the day of our session, bringing your film into the lab, and putting your galleries together. I totally understand that booking a shoot is an investment, but I am confident that if you decide to go forward with one you will not regret it. At the end of the day all you have is time and place, and life happens fast! In 20 years, I can guarantee it's going to mean so much to be able to look back and see your family as they are now paused in time.
